    A problem in Alexandria is the fact that the old city is buried entirely under the new city, meaning excavation is difficult to conduct. Who knows what jewels will eventually be discovered there?

    In contrast, in Upper Egypt the Nile has often shifted its course since ancient times resulting in ancient settlements being discovered a few km from where the Nile now flows.

    It is amazing that they could carve granite like that so long ago. Fun read.

    Yeah, it is pretty amazing @NLL ! Just think of what is laying underneath the city's streets - perhaps the tomb of Alexander the Great.

    It is hard to imagine what could be buried but I'd imagine there are probably many hoards of coins.
