    Post Christmas Half search......

    Search 16 rolls of Halves...

Found two 1969 40% silver halves.
Found two 2001-D and two 2001-P Not released for circulation halves.

    Not too bad.

As previously discussed, both 2001-D and 2001-P coins were business strikes that were released into circulation.

I've come across a ton of them. 2002+ were the halves that weren't/haven't been minted for circulation.

    Straight from the mint.
    -------------------------
The United States Mint is opening the vault and offering never before released 2001-dated (P) Kennedy half dollars! To complete this offer, the United States Mint is including 2001-dated (D) Kennedy half dollars in the two-roll set as the 2001 (D) were only released in small quantities in limited areas of the country. Your collection of Kennedy half dollars can now be complete with the purchase of these coins.
    --------------------------

The Mint made a bunch of these coins and stored most of them.

You are right that the 2002+ series are low mintage no intended for circ. But the 2001 is not as prevalent as 2000 and older. Especially the P mint coins! The mint selling rolls of 2001 today tells me that at least part of the mintage was stuffed in the vaults.

In my opinion, as the Clad Kennedy have some enigmatic coins, And the 80s tops my list.

1987 is obvious, but less obviously 1986 can be maddeningly hard to find. 1985 and 1984 are not far behind... but can be found. I have searched countless halves and never seen a 1986... wonder if they are not all sitting somewhere

In reality the 1971,1972,1974 and 1976 coins continue to grossly overwhelm the series....50 to 60% of the coins I find are these dates. Halves don't circulate much if at all, most I find here the tellers say have been sitting in thier vaults for a couple years or more..

Oddly I run across two types of rolls, each has equal chance of the occasional 40% silver, franklin, or 1964. One type of roll allways has nothing newer then 1982 or 1983 with a HUGE dominances of the above big four common dates. The others have up to 2000 with less dominance of the big dates, but not by much.

Tangential: Well, yes, but they could say that about any coin that has set in their vaults from the time it was minted. If they still have Bicentennials setting around that have never been released then they could claim they were "offering never before released Bicentennials." It would say nothing about the millions they did release already. Personally, I never trust an advertisement. But that could just be me.

did some searching yesterday too.... 52 40%, 2 bennys and 6 walkers. one $20 roll was 1968d all uncirculated, i got it with nine other rolls that were all uncirc bi centennials, after i found the 68s i walked back into the bank and asked if there were any other coins from this lot (dimes, quarters, nickels, cents), they explained that they'd culled all the silver from them....or so they thought. 60 coins my best days haul yet. i'm up to:

    315 - 40%
    67 - 90% (13 walkers, 12 bennys)

on another note, i even found some silver at work. i have a little used clothing boutique and i found $.55 in the pocket of a pair of old slacks. a merc dime(1945) two fdrs(1955, 1946) and a 1960 quarter.

I found a bank with 2 rolls, one of the rolls had a dollar coin, ROFL. But the roll was still 50cents short. DAMMIT, No silver ether.

Found another bank with a $800 on hand. Got $160, nothing, but I think it was bad luck. Going to try again there.

Got $20 in nickels, never find anything too interesting, I am going to give up on nickels. Never find buffaloes or War Nickels...

2000 nickels searched, i found about 15 or so pre 1960 nickels and one 1942p, i did find an interesting looking error that i'm going to have to photograph and put up on here.

Yikes, it's been a few dismal weeks for halves.. In 8 boxes ($4000), 1-90% and 15-40%. Ouch. Though I did get a proof I didn't already have and a 1987D to fill some holes, so it wasn't a complete loss..

searched $520 worth of halves today and found 26 40%, and no 90%, still a good 2.5% chance of silver. ran across one teller 'saving' some halves for her friend, i could see them in her drawer about 5 90% by the looks of them. pretty warn too, could have been walkers or franklins.

Post 1000! Picked up $360 worth of halves today from two different banks. First $160, no keepers. Lone keeper from the $200 from the second bank was a 2006 D Kennedy. No silver. Second bank still had an unopened box, so I will go back tomorrow and buy a few rolls.
