Anyone else like a coin, tho it's only worth face value, by 20180701_201744.jpg 20180701_201709.jpg 20180701_200009.jpg 20180701_200121.jpg the way it toned. These pics give an idea of the color but can't catch the shine. Same coin, just done in different light.

Very worn die. The grime in the recesses makes the detail stand out nicely.

The pics really dont do it justice. No matter what caused it, it's been with me for years, and will stay. :) just wondered if others like some coins for the same reason. Not because of worth, date, etc.

It's pretty kewl looking as the black enhances the lettering and stuff. You'll find this common on really old (100+ yr) coins too (and Chinese fakes). So the "look" does have it's followers it just depends if it's a few years old … or over a hundred years old.

Ring makers also use a wax for the same thing on intricate designs on cheap jewelry (and coin rings). To enhance the design characteristics.

Around 8 years ago I was in a local coin club. They were all about the value and silver. When I showed them this one, I heard lots of detail, u should clean it. U see I didn't listen and left the group not long after.

Good call, Like I said earlier I like the look of a circulated coin like that, it gets you thinking abut the history of the coin.

That MA quarter is really weird looking. Whatever happened to it gave it the appearance of a Chinese counterfeit!

(Edit: Aha! I see @Clawcoins had the same thought. Maybe I'm not nuts after all.)

Wonder what happened to give it that odd appearance.

Nice find on the '56 quarter! Handsome.
