In last Torex show I got a beautiful and very lustrous Phraates II (132 BC - 126 BC) coin of early Parthian period. He was a warrior king who released Demetrius II and fought with seleukid with intention of capturing syria. He also could re-capture babylon from seleukids.
Great coin, and the brief backstory connection you mentioned makes it an even greater coin! But... now you've made me want a coin from this ruler. To which my hobby budget and wife say thank you. Not! ;-) Seriously, Mr. Phraates II is now on my Buy-This-Soon list. :-D
@Bob L. Thanks for comment. yea it is a great buy I saw this on Torex from a reputed VCoins dealer and he said he haven't published it yet on his VCoins so I immediately made a deal @philologus_1 I totally hear you me and you share the same delimma of our wives. actually this one I got it without her knowledge lol otherwise I was in divorce court now but aside from this yea this was for a while on my hunt list till the opportunity hit.
Very nice coin. I love it when the Eastern coins show clearly the interesting hair syles or headdresses or jewlery. The earring is very visible in your picutre, even though your fingertips are in focus.
Not a problem! It is a pleasure getting confused with Parthicus, for he is and Bob L are the big Parthian coinage scholars. I am just getting started!
@Agricantus Thanks for comments yes I love also the details of bust and hair style and headdress on this coin my eventual goal is have a sample of each type of bust used on parthian coinages.
