Has anyone ever gotten anything really unusual from the bank?

I ask because I once saw an American Silver Eagle in low AU state obviously circulated state with visible wear that a dealer had in the junk silver round bin. I asked about it and he said that someone sold it to him after finding it at a bank! Probably some dumb kid spending a gift. Almost got it for a pocket coin before I remembered silver was 15 or so an ounce

So has anyone seen anything really bizarre as far as legal us tender? such as spent Bullion coins, 2 or 3 cent pieces, 20 cent pieces, old gold eagles, etc etc etc.

I have heard of some people finding strange items, guitar picks etc.
But, I haven't found any, unless you count a one cent blank planchet.
    And an Indian Head cent.

I've found some silver certs and everything, nothing too strange though. My teller told me that there is a drawer that that has a bunch of silver in it, except she has to wait till the teller that runs it comes in so she can buy it from her for me.

thats cool. are you getting it for face value? i'm suprised the teller is going to sell it and not take it for herself! :rolling:

I was a bank asking for halves one time and the teller started talking about having once taken a deposit of a $10 silver coin that a grocery store'd received (and was depositing back at the bank). His manager bought the coin.

Thing is -- ASE's are $1, silver dollars are $1, silver halves are $0.50... Did someone really spend a 1/10oz Platinum coin ($10 face)? The world (outside of the manager and whoever spent it) may never know..

Are you aware that SAEs circulate in Haiti, IIRC? (May be the Dominican Republic, I can't remember which Carribean island nation it was)

Still odd, but it explains why they are found circulated from time to time...Mike

there are also all kinds of old coins and notes in those poor countries. even in alaska you can get old coins all the time in rolls.

i've been meaning to go to alaska anyway, thanks for the tip. my only fear is that there are only a few thousand dollars in halves in the hole state and one of you guys will beat me to 'em.

One of the guys at work today came up to me and asked if I wanted these 2 stupid Canadian dimes? I said sure, (I collect Canadian also being Im from Minnesota,We always had some in change), gave him .20 and he gave me a 1995 Canadian dime and a 1937 Mercury that is in great shape. He said he tried to put them in the pop machine and they would not take. OH my! Got home and the 37 is much better than the one in my book.
