Hello everyone I’m new on here but have always been interested in Vam Morgan’s. I came across a morgan going through some old bank rolls a few weeks ago. I actually listed it for sale on eBay and sold it for 35$ not smart I was able to send the buyer another coin with his agreement. I got a closer look at it and it had crazy clashing. When doing some research I realized it was an 1880 P Vam 25-C. The Vam 25-B is actually from the same dies. It says it’s extremely rare. The only difference is the 25-C has polishing. I can’t find any value information on the 25-C. It’s listed as a WoW Vam. I just submitted it to PCGS for grading. It would grade about MS 63. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pics posted.
Welcome to The Forum Adam and I must say you hit the proverbial jackpot my friend. I think you might be spot-on with your attribution ...From the research I just did there is going to be a small die crack between the U & N of United. can you check and see that if that is there ??as it appears you have either a vam25 b or c and that crack will help determine the difference Congrats
Yeah this does have the small die crack between the 1880 and the Un in United. I am just having a hard time finding values for this coin. I’m wondering if it’s because not many have showed up yet.
If it comes back 64 it will be the top pop. If 63 it will be tied for top pop w 2 others. I dont have a copy of the vam view price guide and there is only 7 others out there so..... What someone is willing to pay is what its worth. Being so rare and a WOW coin should bring a very very nice premium . Those clashes are awesome. Nice find! @Dave Waterstraat @messydesk got anything to add?
Thank you. Yeah I saw that too MS 64 would be nice and a stretch but 63 is definitely possible. I didn’t realize what I had until I almost mailed it to someone for 35$. It’s in grading now and I will be sure to post a picture when it comes back. It’s not on the hit list, hot 50, or top 100 but they should still designate it.
How can you go through old bank rolls? Can I do that from a bank? Im Curious because I want to do that. And I have a 1880 morgan dollar too. And want more of them.
I usually will buy rolls on eBay. You have to be very careful though as people seed the rolls and sometimes are not honest when selling rolls they put together themselves. I try to buy only Uncirculated rolls. I bought this roll of Morgan’s from a respected seller. The roll was an old bank roll from chase bank New York. It was about 1300.00 though. It had a 1878 Cc morgan also. I would start small like Uncirculated pennies, nickels, and dimes. Look on eBay and type OBW pennies, nickels, or dimes. Make sure they are Uncirculated so that was you know what you are getting and tightly wrapped. I look for errors or gem Uncirculated beauties. Hope this helps.
That is a huge score. I have no idea what it's worth either but what Heavy posted is always true, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. This roll find certainly goes against everything I've ever read on-line about original bank wrapped rolls of Morgans. Once again congrats and welcome to CT....
Thank you all very much for the support. Yeah I have never used forums before but will now as I’m still learning and it’s nice to get second opinions. Yes I agree I was shocked when I saw it. I am always a little hesitant to buy OBW rolls on eBay but the seller was highly rated and sold a bunch of rolls. It came from a old Chase bank NY roll and had a nice 1878 CC in the roll also. They get expensive but this one totally worth it.
Visited the Central Library, today, in Birmingham, U.K. (not Alabama !).They've got a new machine there, "The Penny Press". You insert a British pound coin and, alongside it a penny. Now you "Make your own Souvenir - Rewriting the Book - Library of Birmingham", by turning what seems like a steering wheel. After a minute or two your, now unrecognisable, penny falls through. It has become oval, flatter than a pancake, with a distinct portrait of Mr. Shakespeare. - I now consider myself a fully fledged Coin Minter !!! Of a rare 2018 U.K. penny. Any offers ?
