Hello I'm new to coin roll hunting and I have maybe a dumb question, but what would be the best to dig through? Penny's? Nickels, dimes, I'm not rich so I buy boxes of Penny's, but what would u guys suggest?
Well for me it was cents it was cheap and I was new and there was no cents in me wasting a bunch of money if I lost interest. Of cause you won't lose any money on any of your rolls oh wait I was looking for the 43 copper. LOL Dave
Welcome Scott! Depends on what you are interested in and what you need in the way of filling albums. Try them all and see which one(s) you enjoy hunting the most. Then change it up after awhile to keep it fun. You can usually dump the searched coins without too much trouble, but I recommend you open an account at a different bank if you plan to dump more than just a few rolls at at time. That way you keep your source bank tellers happy. Good luck!
I started with cents as I get 500 for $5 worth and that's a lot to go through but I have since started on Jeffersons which I wish I hadn't. They are the worst to roll hunt as they get so beaten up it's hard to determine errors because of hits on the coin but for some reason I'm kind of addicted to it lol. Maybe it's the challenge of trying to find either a BU or a true DD. The fun is in the hunt.
First much would depend upon your purpose for searching the rolls. However, the ones containing the type you're most familiar with is usually a fine choice.
I get nickels and pennies if I don't find any I take them back and get some more. i also try different banks
Penny boxes don't produce nearly as well as individual penny rolls deposited by customers - especially those deposited from church and school carnivals. My only indian cent finds all came from school carnival rolls.
