Unfortunately, some people in this day and era are going to get offended no matter “how” you say it. That gets wearisome, so some people who can give good advice just give up trying.

Coin collecting is supposed to be a fun hobby, unless you are making a business of it, so collect what you want and learn about those coins, or currency. If your skin isn't thick enough to take criticism then I can see why you think you should leave. I've been collecting coins all of my life, but only got serious about it recently and have learned a lot from the feed back I've gotten here. Just reading daily posts, even those I'm really not that interested in, has taught me a lot. It has encouraged me to read up on the many different aspects of collecting.
All I can say, is stick with us as we travel the road of learning about this hobby.

The OP posted this thread just to create drama.

Monster, You seem to buckle under too easily. We all, in this game (as in others) need to take the rough with the smooth. None of us, including yourself, are frail porceline dolls. One aspect we all have to learn is self confidence, and when we fall into the sea, we don't give up, we practise our Swimology. It is tempting to feel sorry for oneself, at times, but one shouldn't allow oneself to be a helpless victim. We shouldn't crucify ourselves !!!

It just occurred to me - maybe we all have something, about life, to learn from our coins !!!

A lot of responses are 'do the research yourself' then post a question. Picture yourself as a rank beginner who doesn't have a clue where to look for information or advice. It's easy to say google is your friend but google more often than not is information overload which is why they join here. Newbies expect a friendly and warm welcome which they don't always get. If they ask followup questions it's because they are new and might not understand your response or would just like clarification. Like is too short to be abrupt with someone just because they don't understand your response. Just my view on this.

Billy Gibbons (seen below playing on the street in Helsinki for spare change) would say: 'stick with it & you might succeed'

.. and many newbies post less than or just barely enough information for us to have a clue. So you end up with sarcastic postings.

    but a few problems:
    • Fuzzy, dark and small images are worthless
    • Describing it (without a picture) the newbie normally uses the description they read from a DD website, for example.
    • a newbie even expects that their review of one coin to another should be taken "as an expert opinion" and thus everyone should agree with them even though they really don't know how to compare details.
    • Then it devolves more and more and more and more ....

    • Many do not understand some of the EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE folks here who grade for the TPGs, have high end coin shops (just not the one in the local town), have written books, are top tiered certified in the numismatic world, etc.

It's true, sadly. I've seen it before. The offended ones want to go out with a bang, or teach us a lesson in manners. So they start a "look at poor me" thread. Still.... I didn't have a problem with Monster. She could've stayed and that would have been great. Never bothered me a bit. She's welcome back anytime as far as I'm concerned.

Kentucky suggests laughing at yourself. There certainly are times when one takes oneself too seriously !!!

Hey guys. In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a push to make a sense of humor a federal offense!
