Was checking some Roosevelt dimes came across this one awful strange looking over polished probably cleaned full torch very very clean coin very detailed it has an S mint mark where the mint mark should be next to the torch on the reverse I'm not crazy I understand that was the year of the variety change move removing the silver from the coin also it was only Denver and Philadelphia mint an SMS no proofs for a 65 66 or 67 in the Roosevelt dimes I C&S tell me what you think but don't tell me I'm crazy because I see an S with with seraphs can see it almost with the naked eye
Yeah it wasn't possible that was a 1982 D small date Coppa it wasn't possible that there was an 1990 no s proof it wasn't possible that it wasn't possible that there was a 1975 proof no s it wasn't possible that there was a 1968 no s proof that's just a few keep an open mind wish me luck look at the coin what do you see
it wasn't possible that I had a 68 proof no s when the guy went to his locked cabinet and looked at his no s68 proofs and he didn't have one and I did a coin specialist and I freaking can't find the dime lot of things ain't possible buddy
You mentioned that you can almost see it with the naked eye. Keep in mind that mint marks are visible without magnification. If you need to magnify to see it, it is not a mint mark. Just my opinion.
OK. You tell me how it's possible for a 1965 dime to have an S mint mark. It's not. Your images show nothing. Do you actually think there was only one 1965-S dime made and you found it? The other coins you brought up were possible. You need to learn the minting process.
You know, I think I'm going to start using a canned response for these: "Hey, what's the idea? Zoom in on the other side of the torch, and you can plainly see... well, let's just say you would NOT see one of those on a 1950s TV sitcom. You'd better take it down, quick-like, before the mods see it!"
It's polished to begin with, and there is no S or anything else there........ Another example of numismatic pareidolia
By the time the 1965 diems were produced it had long before been decided that the coins for the next five years would not have mintmarks so there would have been on reason to make a S mintmarked die. Although the San Francisco Mint had been reactivated for production, S mint dimes had not been produced for over 10 years and there would not have been old S mintmarked dies laying around either. I agree it looks intriguing but I do NOT believe that there actually is an S mintmark there and it is a product of pareidolia.
Keep looking. That is how all new varieties are discovered! If you look enough, sooner or later you will find something impressive. Good luck in your search!
Thank you for the positive comment, it's always good to know there's a good people out there thanks again
As you're looking, don't forget to keep studying and learning about the minting process. The more you know about how coins and dies are made, the easier it will be to determine if you actually found something new.
