Hey guys check this out. Is this something special? It's a 1943 steel penny. From what I can tell it looks like it has both d and s mintmarks.

Nothing but a spot of gunk in my opinion. It seems that your eyes are seeing what they want to see, not what is really there.

    Just a D.
With a lot of these coins, check first if there is a known variety. (D over S, etc.)
Because, while it is "possible" to be the first person to discover a new variety,
millions of people have been looking at millions of these 1943 coins for 75 years, so if there isn't already a known variety, you probably aren't finding one.
99% of the "Is this a Doubled Die" posts, there isn't even a known DD for that year. If there is already a known variety, then maybe you have something. If there isn't, it's astronomical odds that it is.
Now in the 1944 cent, there is a known rare D over S variety, but I don't believe there is for 1943.

Couldn't agree more with the previous posters. Only thing I would add.... Those old steel cents tended to decompose and rust in some very unusual ways. The cent you are holding I would bet is a reprocessed cent based on how new it looks. If it was reprocessed over a spot of existing decomposition, it could come through looking any of a number of ways.
