Does anyone who might have read the relevant portions of the giant bill know when the edge lettering is to be removed from the edge of the dollars and put on the faces? Will 2007 be a one year issue? Or will they water it down with a second year?

    Cheers,
    David

The last line of the section reads...

    c) Effective Date- The change required by the amendments made by subsections (a) and (b) shall be put into effect by the Secretary of the Treasury as soon as is practicable after the date of enactment of this Act.

It could be mid year but my guess would be starting with the 2009 issues.

no mention of it on the US Mint website...

don't you think thay'd be kind of loud about it if this was now law??? Their "silence" on this says to me what I have thought all along, No Senate Approval yet.

But putting it on a spending bill is the one way to get to passed.

The bill originated the the House and was passed on Monday the 17th. It was passed on to the Senate where they added funds for the Iraq war. The Senate passed the omnibus bill, 76 to 17 on Tuesday. The revised bill was returned to the house where it was approved Wednesday night and sent to the President. Bush has indicated he will sign it.

He'll sign it. Either he signs it or the continuing resolution runs out and all the government employees get laid off until Congress reconvenes in mid January after the Christmas recess.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but what is the status of moving the writing on the edge of the dollar coins to the obverse and reverse? I read about the Sac. dollars in 2009 having the writing on the edge. I HATE that!!! Thanks.

When the President signs this bill "IN GOD WE TRUST" will not be put on the edge of future dollar coins.
The Date, MM and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" should remain on the edges as provided by the authorizing laws for each coin.

    Done deal, Washinton Times today:

Bush signs $555 billion spending bill
    By Ben Feller
    December 27, 2007
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) — President Bush, still voicing concern about special-project spending by Congress, yesterday signed a $555 billion bill that funds the Iraq war well into 2008 and keeps government agencies running through September.

President Bush signed the massive spending bill as he flew on Air Force One to his Texas ranch to see in the new year. His signature on the legislation caps a long-running fight with the Democrat-led Congress.......
