    Took a hit during circulation.. Just look at the damage on the rest of the Cent

    Abe certainly got damaged a lot in his 59 years of circulation. You're lucky it isn't just a flat disc from general wear or more numbers and letters being "changed" from direct hits.

    Here's a 1913 I found and it looks like there is a 7 under the 9, hard to tell in this picture

    Pay close attention to the fact that the coins where you see these "extra things" also are heavily damaged. This is not a coincidence.

    Your coins appear to have spent some time in a parking lot. When a coin made out of soft metal like copper gets run over by a vehicle the metal can get damaged and numbers and letters can get shifted around. What is causing you to see something on a damaged coin is called pariedella which can make you see something that is not actually there. I hope this helps @Dusty .
