Simple question, and in advance i have never or will never order from either one. Which do you find more amusing to watch the Coin Collector on HSN or Coin Vault on SAH. I am relatively new to collecting, and have been doing so for around a year, but has anyone ever ordered from one of these shows, they seem to be outragously overpriced?
Yes, they are overpriced. A lot of things are twice as much as on the "regular" market. The guys at Coin Vault are pretty amusing, and sometimes I watch it just to get an idea of what I might want to buy next (from some other dealer). The Coin Collector guys don't seem that knowledgable.
I also would never order from either of those shows. I do like to watch the Coin Vault though. I'm waiting for a 90% off day or "All coins at face value day" so the coins will actually be what their worth. I highly doubt those days will ever come to be. I think it is funny when they say that is 104 coins, less than $2 a coin and you can put it on 5 pay!
I think they're both pretty funny- cheap entertainment at its finest. It does make me mad though when the overly made up talking head is saying what a great investment these gold plated state quarters are! Rachel
Ive seen both shows. But what i dont like is how they prey upon the unknowing public. I cant tell you how many times members of the public come up to me, or another dealer, at a show with their recently purchased TV-treasures and want to sell them at a profit. When I offer them 1/4 of what they paid, they think I am trying to steal them. I always try to offer them the same items at 10% more than i was willing to pay for theirs... they usually dont buy. I think these TV shows, beacuse of what they charge, do much more harm than good. after someone loses 75% of what they paid, they wont ever buy again.
yeah, i think id rather watch the coin vault, both are really overpriced, but i think the guy on the coin collector has got to be the most annoying guy in the world. "Delaware gold plated quater, $15 bucks in stores...". Also, on the coin collector where they have the amount that are being sold, do you think those are actual numbers, or just to get people to order?
That's my problem with the television sales. There are too many new collectors out there who can be ripped off because of all the hype. I have to wonder how many people were completely turned off to coin collecting because they bought from one of these programs and then found out they got burnt.
They do when they get in a financial bind and try to sell!!! Many of them then think the dealer is trying to rip them off! That's the sad part! They should have consulted a dealer, a coin guide or coin collector before getting ripped off in the first place so they learn the HARD way and they don't like it a bit!
Oh come now, the Con Vault guys act like you can sell your lot right back to them at a 2 or 3 percent profit! U mean u can't? R O F L M A O
Good point. You buy a $20 coin for $50 and when the dealer offers you something like $12, do people assume that they overpaid for the item? Probably not.
I think that those guys must have a lawyer present or at least reviewing the scripts..........they seem to walk a very thin line with their commentary about the coins........BUT....the market is there....and if we collectors will not educate our neighbors about coins.........they will!!
