Possible 1940's Penny Error Coin ...

I recently came across a 1940's wheat penny that is missing the final digit in the year. It only has "194" indicating the year. There does not appear to be any significant markings that would indicate physical removal of this digit. I have done a search for error coins and cannot find anything similar. Pictures are attached. Has anyone seen something like this before? Any thoughts? P6192055.JPG P6192071.JPG P6192043.JPG

Grease is the word. No extra value. Unless it's a 1943 copper.

Seems like a filled die error to me. It's interesting, but there's not much value. Here is a similar 1943 steel cent that I think cost 50 cents. I'd still keep it though. As a side note, you took really good close ups!

    It's a grease filled die.

Thanks to all for the responses and education. The picture quality was the result of simply combining an old point and shoot camera with an average grade kid microscope.

Why would that reverse the image?
