I was recently looking through my collection of US pennies, and I noticed that I have a 1944 - S double die penny. I cannot find any trace of this penny's existence. I looked in "The Official RED BOOK" and did not see any evidence of a 1944 double die penny. I was wondering if anyone has come across this same penny, and/or direct me in the right path to finding out how much this penny is worth? Thanks, Forknif
First off welcome to the Forum. Can you post a picture. There are different doubled dies for that year. Rhubarb
I will work on a picture over the next couple of days. I have to find a quality digital camera. The numbers are almost died half way over, and some letters of Liberty are slightly double died.
Try this link. www.coppercoins.com - Click Die variety search - Put the date and click San Fran. Maybe that would help ID it. Rhubarb
Like Rubard posted, www.coppercoins.com is a very good reference. Except, is the doubling on the Obverse or Reverse? Best of luck with pics. :thumb: Phoenix
I is really hard to tell from the picture but from what I can see, it appears to be Machine Doubling! If you can provide a more close-up and in-focus picture, we might be able to make a better assessment of the doubling. Frank
here you go, this should be a much better picture you can also see that some of the Liberty is double died aswell
I have a double date 1944 S just like the one pictured. Has anyone found more information about this coin? Sept. 2018.
The coin shown in this thread has machine doubling and has no premium value. If your coin looks just like this one, it also has machine doubling. However, if you post a picture of your coin then someone may be able to tell you with more certainty what your coin exhibits.
