    Welcome aboard.

We were all newbies at some point. You have to start somewhere. Ask away.

I see you are a currency collector. I won't be of much help to you regarding currency BUT if you have any questions about coins I may be able to answer them.

I would recommend that you read a few books about whatever area of numismatics you are interested in. See what books your library has on collecting currency. Go to your local coin dealer and buy a book or two. Ask him a lot of questions. Look through his stock and maybe buy a thing or two.

Go to a coin show. You will be amazed at how much stuff there will be for you to look at and learn. Plus you will meet people with similar interests from whom you can learn a lot.

Join your local coin club. Consider joining the ANA (American Numismatic Association).

Subscribe to Coin World or Numismatic News.

    That is a nice start.

I significantly increased my enjoyment of the hobby when I stopped buying from dealers ages ago and solely search through circulation. The finds are always much more rewarding and carry a story behind them

Here's a tip, when you goto the bank, go when there is no line (and I literally mean no line). Ask the teller to look through their mutilated pile for older notes. Gauge the teller's response and decide for yourself if it's worth it to ask them to set stuff aside for you (but never leave them hanging if they do). If they express any interest, share your finds with them too.

    Good Luck
