Well, I opened my big mouth on a thread awhile ago and said I still had no Severus in my collection. @Sallent took pity on me and offered me a discount on this pristine coin, and @John Anthony handled all of the details. Anyway, just arrived in mail 15 minutes ago, so here it is!

Septimius Severus, A.R. Denarius, Rome mint, 210 C.E.

    3.3 grams, 19.1 mm

Obverse: Laureate head right, SEVERVS PIVS AVG

Reverse: PMTRP XVIII COS III PP

Neptune standing left, nude but for cloak over left shoulder and right arm, right foot on rock, right arm resting on right knee, trident vertical behind in left hand.

Hope you like it and feel free to post any coins of that Septimius dude (or Neptune, for that matter!)

The Neptune type only came late in the reign and from the Rome mint. Was this when Septimius was enroute to Britain by sea or did he encounter rough weather when crossing the Mediterranean?

I'm so glad you are enjoying the coin. It is a nice one.

Folks, sorry I've been quiet, but I am on a vacation, and when you are surrounded by beautiful beaches everything else is a small priority.

Thanks @Sallent. All I can say is that I wish I was on a beautiful beach, but that will have to wait til my August vacation.
