As I said, I have a bunch of coins. So I'll do 3 a day, respectively. And I'm looking for worth here, money troubles are real and I gotta do what I gotta do...
It’s likely worth melt. Instead of posting here, why don’t you go out on eBay and look up the same coins you have. That way you can get an idea of what they are selling for?
Type: Ben Franklin Half Dollar Year: 1952 Mint Mark: No mint mark Face Value: 0.50 USD Total Produced: 21,000,000 Silver Content: 90% Silver Weight: .3617 oz. Silver Melt: $5.98
I'm not sure of all the defects, or special things to look out for. So I'm hoping to have Eagle Eyes as yourselves, that would know just by the pictures. I already went through tons of YouTube videos that led me to hold onto certain years. It's all the facts about those years I'm not sure of. And melting down a coin that had that special characteristic, that I didn't know because on Ebay the same coin sells for $2, would just break my heart. And a collectors as well
You are not actually melting it down. You are selling it to a dealer for melt value. Well, less than melt value. They’ll sell it to someone, on and on it goes. Also, the chances of you getting rich off of some obscure error on a YouTube video is so remote that you are more likely to get hit by a train while sleeping in your own bed.
No, Yeah I'm going to chemically melt them down. Have a bunch of gold and silver that I wanna play with. So, you're saying there's no chance that I have a rare coin, and I should just throw them all out? That's just a tad rude, and presumptuous... Hmmm I'll just throw up a list of the coins I have in the thread, and see if anyone bites on the year first?
use eBay. Look at the condition of those coins your posted ? Compare them to ebay if you wish. If it's a rare error .. then please point it out to us as we don't see it although I'm no Error Expert. they're here. Maybe you are thinking die clash like this ? I think I see it on the eagle but unsure ==> http://www.maddieclashes.com/tdc-50c-1952-01/ If they saw it they'd point it out .. but also CONDITION is EVERYTHING too. Compare to this one that sold for $6.27 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-S-Fra...446213&hash=item285ce8b268:g:3x0AAOSwCfRbGzAA and then compare to this one that sold for $195 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-Silve...Cents-50c-No-3-/323301383570?oid=312161449028 Can you tell the difference? Where does yours compare to them .. if you thought less than the $6.27 one then you are right. But if you can reference a source for something rare about your coin then please reference it too. Remember, if you chemically melt them down then you may also want to separate the metals. 90% Silver - 10% Copper
We’re not telling you to throw the half out. We’re giving you an honest assessment of what you could reasonably expect to get for the coin. It has no value to a collector because of its condition, but as Paddyman pointed out, the silver content makes it worth far more than face value (12 times face value).
Yeah I was aware of condition, but errors change that number drastically. I do apologize for not being clear on my original posting.
If you are going to look for errors, start doing research on the topic. I’m not an error collector but I hope some around here can give you some references.
I do apologize, this site was referred to me explaining, the guys who live and breathe coins are on here and love to see what you have. I'll do more research on what I have, before I ask what I have. As you can see, still noob here
In better shape I think those go for $8-$10. Since yours has seen better days, $6 is the going rate. You could always wait for silver to go up, then it would be worth more. However, since it was in the $20's a number of years ago it has been in a $15-$17 range for a long time.
Honestly the 12X number is good, but expect to get less from the Gold and Silver places since they have to make money too. If you want to take the chance, you could put them on Craigslist in your area at 12X and see what bites you get. Errors are just not that common and REALLY look like errors if you have one. Rare dates are best seen on e-bay. Look for mintmarked coins in general (s most commonly worth a premium). Good hunting
