No new coins here, but some new photos of some old trachy coins I had. Same camera and photographer, but dang are the pics better.

Old method: Put coin on table in office, take a pic of each side, if it looks ok on the camera screen then good enough, crop a bit, done.

new method: Put coins under natural sunlight, take MANY pics of each side, pic the best when viewed on a big computer monitor. Edit pics in gimp, paint background.

    Old pic, yuk!

New pic, note the "cyclops Jesus" but strong field devices on the obverse and double headed Constantine on the reverse.

O: Young Christ, R: Alexius and St. Constantine (nimbate). SB 2011-13, 5 mm, 3.2 g.

If interested why these coins look pretty different, check out this thread...

    Here is trachy number 3!

In the past I had painted around the edged of the coin with a a soft brush in gimp, then filled in the background with the same brush. This would frequently leave "brush dents" on the coin and areas in the background where I would miss painting. Here a pic of a coin in another thread with the exposure adjusted to really show off my mistakes.

Now I paint the background with a HUGE brush that is as large as the canvas so I can't miss any spots. I also don't paint around the edges of the coin, I use the free select tool and just cut them out of the original pics and paste them on the painted background. No more weird coin edges.

Post any trachy coins, or new pics of old coins!

Oh wait, I tried to make a cool gif, but failed. Here is a short vid of trachy 3 I took with my phone camera. Had to edit it a bit. Not the best really. I do a vanishing trick at the end...lol!

Would anyone be interested in a gimp coin photo tutorial? If so let me know and I'll make one.

    Alas, I am still at the old stage. I would appreciate a tutorial. E6C5CBBB-6A1B-4DC8-B517-6E5F6B842C4F.jpeg F9D8CC7A-53AF-4DBC-812C-DB85256BA5BF.jpeg 11C055B0-CB0A-47E8-86EF-AB5DAE5E07E0.jpeg D62C78F3-3E9F-4E92-A18E-E65A33F57DB1.jpeg

Wow, Chris... great job with the new photos! Those are some of the most difficult coins to shoot and your pictures turned out great!
