OK, this what i think you will say- That the coin is overgraded by atleast 2 pts. The rainbow toning on this coin is not natural and it is the work of a coin doctor. That should just about sum it up. Am i close? Edit: Not that i would necessarily be disagreeing with you
No. I think the coin is gorgeous, the toning completely natural. Though that's not to say it cannot be replicated by those who know how. And the grade, I don't use plus grades but I'd grade it a 64.
OK, but why ? I mean, you mentioned my first post on page 1, and that was in reference to this coin - And the difference between that, and this - - is about as radical as you can get ! The coins are night and day apart ! The 1st, to me anyway and I believe anyone who knows coins, has the obvious appearance of artificial chemical toning and is no where near the equal of the 2nd coin in any way. Beyond that it's ugly as sin. The one and only similarity between the 2 coins is the grade on the slab, but that doesn't surprise me in the least. To the contrary it merely confirms what I have long said about the TPGs. Of course if you can't see the difference between those 2 coins well then that might explain the reason for you being shocked at my opinion of the 2nd. But then I'm just guessing on that count.
Why?? Has nothing to do with the 2 coins. Other than the fact maybe, that 1921 Morgans dont tone up as nicely as the others from 1878-1904. It was because of your M.O. and the countless posts ive read of yours
Well all I can tell ya is my comments are based on the coins that I am commenting on. If you'd been around longer you would readily realize that I have said a great many positive things about coins. But I only do so when the coin is worthy of having positive things said about it. And believe it or not there was even a time when I would occasionally say that the TPGs had under-graded a coin. And when I did, folks would sometimes even send it in and guess what - it would get up-graded. Imagine that !
Well, I guess we are not going to get any more guesses. With that said, @Beefer518 took this round with his guess of $1500.00. The final price after buyers premium was $1438.86.
Saw a couple 21's at the last show I attended. 1800 to 2500 retail. 64 and 5 grades. I can't see my self paying that much.
I'm leaving for Europe today, so I'll have to pass the posting privilege to the #2, @heavycam.monstervam if he wants it. If not, floor is open.
Doug, I don't see the "obvious appearance of artificial chemical toning," I see a strange EOR toning configuration, and my guess is that PCGS saw the same thing I do. The colors and color progressions are entirely consistent with what you see on EOR toned Morgan Dollars.
What's a matter Paul, ya missed me or sumpin ? Or is it that ya just don't have anybody else to argue with today ? "EOR toning configuration" ? Boy, if ya had somehow managed to work alliteration in there I'd been downright impressed ! But I gotta admit that woulda been a toughy. End of roll toning ? Really ? How does something that is round, like a coin roll, end up forming a square (or rectangle) when ya fold it over ? I've rolled a lot of coins in my day and I've sure never seen it happen. And the way it follows the curls of the hair on the bottom, that one would be tough too. But I'll give ya credit, it sounds good. In any event I don't mind a bit that you disagree with my opinion.
Not all rolls are rolled like this Some are rolled like this. These folds create rectangular shapes. End of roll toning is fairly indisputable as a thing.
