And the answer is MS 67. I agree that the toning on the front makes it hard to guess from a photo. In hand, I don’t see any visible marks so the 67 grade looks right to me.
Right. I don't buy many slabbed coins. I have a few boxes worth, but I prefer raw. Im already paying a premium on the slab, last thing I want is to pay another premium for a sticker. So, potentially you can take the same coin and get 3 different prices. I want coins, not plastic, and not stickers. I understand perfectly the service CAC provides, and I understand the value of it. I rarely have paid over $150 for a coin, and at that price point, I don't see the added value of a sticker. Im only speaking for my own collection.
Not to knock the coin because I think that it is a wonderful coin, the strike is weak on the important side.
Perhaps I should have expanded on my guess. I felt the toning was not super attractive, and there was potential that it was held back a point, and given a 66 by PCGS. If that were the case, I felt that it had a technical grade of 67, and if it was graded a 66, it would get a bean. I did not see this as a + grade coin because of the toning, so I didn't go that route. Does that explain my CAC comment?
