Can anyone give me the following information. The variety? The grade? The approximate value? I was told by a novice that it might be a rare variation because of there appears to be a die crack
What you are interested in is if it is a rare variety (not variation). I'm not an expert on Bust halves but no one is going to be able to help you without some larger images.
Coinnut: Ya embarassed me into it. Normally a full coin photo is an easy starting point. But-- due solely to the die crack: O-105 Obv 5; Rev D. R-3.
O.K.,a quick look up and I think its a O-105,based on the die crack. Really need full body shots to be sure. If it is an O-105,its an R3.
Looks AU to me. Maybe 53 - 55. Perhaps drop that to AU-50 for the minor rim dings. It has probably been cleaned long ago and retoned (like practically all coins from this era).
1822 The coin came from my Great Grandmother DOD 1967 AGE 94 to my Grandfather DOD 1977 to my Mother DOD 1990 to Me age 60. They were not coin collectors but they were curious about the AHF A DOLLER ON THE RIM We never has it appraised or graded Thanks to all for the info. Always go to those who know. I am a Retired Florida State Trooper I was a small arms specialist in the Army I now own a gun shop and do gunsmith work. If I can help in that capacity feel free to ask.
Don't clean that coin. You should put it in some sort of protective container. Check with your local coin dealer for the right thing to store it in.
The coin has AU-50 ish details. I'm not sure about the reverse, but the obverse has definitely been wiped at one point in time. It also appears to be an overton-105. Based on the fact that is has been cleaned in the past I would estimate the value at roughly 160 dollars.
They were not coin collectors but they were curious about the AHF A DOLLER ON THE RIM Omega: there are may errors on the rims, generally they do not add any value. (naturally, with some exceptions.)
Well, Jim & Ben agree, so that is the word. Isn't it interesting how much these have appreciated in value over the last two years? I remember when dealers had plenty in soock. No more.
Bust halves and the Grey Sheet these days are alot like an Atheist and the Bible. They mean nothing to each other. and NO, I am not an atheist. Simply confirming what Frank is saying. There really is no set pricing on Bust Halves right now. Put a price on it and if its within reason, it will sell. Nice Coin by the way. Its a keeper.
