I found this Nickel after work in my register. I looked up the date, but I didnt find any info. Does anyone know if this is fake or if it is an error? How much is it worth if it's real?
It’s 1919, however the first 9 I worn down so it looks like an 8. 1919-S, pretty good find if you ask me.
As the previous respondent mentioned, it is a 1919-S Buffalo nickel. Prior to 1866, there was no such thing as a "nickel", meaning the copper-alloy five-cent coin as we know it today. An 1819 five-cent coin would be a half dime, which was a much smaller silver coin. Except they didn't even strike half dimes in 1819. There were no five cent coins at all struck in that year. PS- if you got that in change, then yes, it's a pretty good find. Worth about eight bucks in G4 grade. (Yours might only be an AG3- not quite G4- so figure about six bucks or so.) It is authentic but not an error coin. And you're not gonna get rich off of it, but since you presumably paid a nickel for it, you're doin' pretty well. It's neat to find any Buffalo nickel in change, particularly a mintmarked early date like that. On the rare occasions when one finds them in circulation, the dates are usually worn off completely.

Well that depends, if it’s a 1937-D 3 Legs in MS65 or higher, you might be able to get a down payment. Since it probably isn’t, I wouldn’t quite your day job just yet.
