Well, the weather here has finally turned too cold to be out walking in the woods, metal detecting, or flying my model helicopter. So i have some more time for coins. I wanted to show you, and hear your opinions about this 1804 quarter bought from Stacks 20 years ago. I think it is the B-1, more common variety. I have been doing some reading about this coin compared to for example the 1-year type 1796 quarter. People actually report the 1804 as being somewhat more scarce than the 1796, specially at higher grades, but the catalogue prices do not reflect this at all. I know i has a hard time finding one i liked, and could afford, in the lower grades. many lower grade examples have a weak bottom on the reverse. This was the best affordable example i could find back then. Eduard
God, I hate you! LOL Just kidding of course, I just wish, but then I'd have to kill the wife, get rid of the body, wait 7 years to collect on her insurance, and then the price would have gone up by then. so, I guess that I'll keep the wife, for now.
Nice coin! The 1804 Quarter is tougher to come by than the 1796. But prices are based on rarity/supply AND demand. And there is greater demand/price pressure for the 1796 due to the fact that it is a one year type coin.
Eduard, you are correct with the attribution, this is a great example of the b-1/d-3. not much more to add to what mark said other than 1804 is neat year and these are difficult to find without problems as they were not hoarded like the 1796's. you have a very nice example...i will try and find/ post an image of my 1804 b-2/d-4...although it is not nearly as nice as your b-2/d-3.
He is referring to how "E PLURIBUS UNUM" has worn. The remaining letters look like "BIRDS ONLY" to him. Each to his own.
Eduard, To me, this is one of the nicer coins you've posted thusfar. Love it. I'd grade it VG8, and the old cleaning (present on 99.9% of these coins) doesn't bother me in the least. A wonderful coin...Mike
I think anything with the date 1804 on it is very rare and hard to find in any grade. Look at all the series in us coins from half cents to dollars not really much there with this date. I really like this date and who dosn't? Your quarter is very nice and you should be proud to own a peace of the 1804 coins that are out there. Veary nice
Another super nice coin Eduard! Thanks for sharing such a rare piece with us! IMHO, I hink that it may actually go a VG-10 as there is a little more hairline (Miss Liberty's hair) detail than what is required to grade a VG-8. Fröhliche Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr! Frank
I want to thank you all for your nice comments. But most of all i want to wish you YOU ALL a happy Christmas season. May 2008 bring you and your families many happy moments! Eduard
