I'm going to try to post one coin each day about something fun. Feel free to add to the thread with something related.

About 30 years ago, I imaged coins on film. I sent Coin World a print of this coin. They wrote me and ask that I send them the coin so they could image it and make an article about it. They imaged it but I don't think there was ever an article.
At that time they called it profile doubling. I guess that's the same as machine doubling. It's not in great condition but the history makes it special to me. Fun coin.

If you have something with profile doubling, please post it.

I forgot to ask something. How can there be such bold doubling just along the profile? It seems like the doubling would show in other areas as well.

Idhair. You might have asked Coin World if they ever did an article on your coin. I would have been more paranoid re. lending them an unusual coin. But that's me being not so fun. 1823 - The Monroe Doctrine. - The 50 cents, or half dollar, coin is sold by "Simply Supplements" for a mere $1395. Form an orderly queue, please !

I had an 1824 double profile very similar to the op coin.
And yes is strange the entire profile is doubled but nothing else is....
    Very cool coin.
The op coin also has a center dot.

Cool coin. I'm very ignorant of the process of making dies in those days. Is it possible the bust was put on with a hub and the date and stars stamped afterward? That would allow for doubling just of the profile.

O-103 with weaker profiling. I always thought they were cool, but not sure how it actually happens.
