I have both designs in my collection and I like them both, but I was wondering which of the two others liked best. Which do you think is better?
Walkers are a better design. Morgans have PL/DMPL and bag toned examples that make some of them more desirable than a generic Walker
Morgan dollars are IMO the second ugliest silver coin ever minted in the US for general circulation--surpassed (barely) only by the Franklin half.
I'd be inclined to put Barbers somewhere in there, but only because they're so ghastly in low grades -- people actually used Barber coins for something besides propping up the silver industry and holding down bank-vault floors.
Agreed. I dont like the design enough to dish out the money for MS Barber anything. There are some spectacular toned ones out there though.
I love the Walker design. On a half dollar. Morgans are fun for VAMing but from a design standpoint, not the prettiest. My Walkers come in silver and gold
Here we go again you didn't have to dog Morgan's in the process. But since we're talking about dogs the bust half Liberty is way uglier, man-ly looking and fatter than Morgan's version of Liberty....I would hate to see what your dates look like shallow hal.
The Franklin is a nice coin. JR Sinnock did an amazing job given all of the hoops he had to jump through. Morgan was capable of better, but not creative enough - just like the Barbers and Longacre.
It's a shame the Morgan obverse is so ugly. The reverse eagle is actually one of the nicest in mint history. The only problem is that NO reverse can overcome being attached to that obverse monstrosity. Speaking of my dates...Actually, my wife DOES have a big bust. They don't call me Bustchaser for nothing.
I have many more Morgans than Walking Liberty halves. But the WL design is purely outstanding. The Morgan is OK, but no work of art.
I am a Morgan Dollar collector. Having said that, that is a beautiful half dollar. I vote you go for the Walking Liberty.
I always thought Anna Williams resembled Virginia Madsen. That said, I have many more Morgans than Walkers but the Walking Liberty Half Dollar design does win my vote.
I vote Morgan. A dollar is better than 50 cents, right? Anyway, while I do collect walkers, something about them always bothered me. They wear horribly and the highpoints form an ugly series of flat lines on the arm, body, and leg. Sure, mint state examples still look decent, but then might as well get you a nice shiny silver eagle at that point. Same design but it's a dollar coin!
