Wow. that is a beauty. The pictures from the mint don't do that coin any justice. I just checked my order and it should arrive tommorrow.
Any benefit to leaving the set mint sealed, as far as grading is concerned? Will they slab it in a 10th anniversary label(the regular proof), if the box is opened?
Well it really depends on what you mean by benefit. If you want this entire set certified by either PCGS or NGC and probably the more respected TPG, you would have to submit this set to them in the original mint sealed box. Since they made a number of the regular one-half ounce proof coins earlier this year, this would be the only they can tell if it were part of the original set. If that is important to you. If you are thinking of selling this at a later date, there "may" be a premium for the unopened box as opposed to the opened box. The possibility of receiving a 70 grade and the first strike designation by PCGS (probably others) is important/valuable to some people. The secoundary market prices would suppose this premise. Right or wrong that is the name of that tune. If someone has one of these beautiful sets and still leave them in the unoped box without at least seeing one in person, then they are a much stronger person that I It looks like NGC will not designate these sets as "early release" While Pcgs will use the "first strikes" label if submitted in the time frame. I have noticed that NGC is not routinely using this "Early release" label. Some examples are the Gold anniversary set, the First spouse gold coins and now the Platinum anniversary sets which NGC did not label as First stikes or early releases. Think all this early release stuff has give me a first strike headache. I go now.
Explain this.......... OK guys, please someone explain this: This set sold for $2900 while the set is still available for $1949 from the mint. I noticed in their description that they tell you to order this set from the mint, yet someone felt the need to over pay almost $1000 for this one. I don't mean to offend anyone, but there truly is a sucker born every minute.
There are a number of these sets on Ebay with a buy it now in the $2,200 range. One of the leading modern coin dealers has a NGC 70 set that sell for about $2,900 bucks. Why would one buy this for $1,000 more than the mint set and there is a possibility they have been cherry picked. Also one does have a 30 day return privilege from the mint. All I can say is things are not always what they seem to be.
After reading the last part of his auction text he plainly states the mint issue price will be around $2000.00. Place your order through them, you gain no advantage purchasing from us! Too bad, it looks to be no return policy to save the buyer either.
