obviously my assumption is stripped off but I don't see any porous texture to imply acid treated. what is REALLY going on? also while I am here what is the weird anomaly next to the T in cents? and what looks like little minor die breaks in a straight line like that? ty.
Looks like there is copper beneath, so I would say at this point, the famous "silver penny (zinc plated) science experiment. The rough areas could be from the clamp or tongs some use to handle the coin. IMO. Jim
In the first photo under the front curl of hair, around lincolns face and eye socket, the depression area where the zinc might not have reached, the photo with arrows , near the rim, smaller areas. It also could be acid treated, but doubtful with the surface shown. Jim
