The United States mint website has quietly added a 2018-S proof American Silver Eagle to its product listings. It will be released on August 14, 2018, at Noon EDT, coincidentally the opening day of the American Numismatic Association convention in Philadelphia. The previous 2018 proof ASE was minted at West Point and has the W mintmark. The new one is minted in San Francisco and has the S mintmark. Will there be a convention release? Probably.
Saw that. Makes the Thursday of the show possibly interesting for some. I'm not going to open the silver medal can of worms, though. Legal tender only. They can jam those World War One medals too. Liberty too. Not playing in that pool.
I did see the reverse proof set. Last I read the presidential medals will have no mintage or time limit like the current bronze ones so I am inclined to pass.
Was the w mint mark the one that sold out to just a few big time dealers before us so called normal colectors were left with nothing. Is so. Is there a story somewhere for me to read what really happened. Thanks for the tip. I think that will be my first bought coin from mint. Bless you
"Special" release. They started this I believe last year minting proof ASE's at two different mints. Just another way to shake more money out of the collectors. They reached the point where they could only sell X number of proof ASE's, so they added a second mintmark and now they can sell 2X number of proof eagles because the collectors feel they have to have both of them It was announced earlier in the year that they were going to be doing this, just not when.
Zackly. The best way to have a tiny mintage is to say "mint to demand". Specify almost ANY max, and that number instantly becomes min and max.
