Here is a topic which deals with the varying aspects of responding/posting to subjective threads on Internet Coin Forums. This one deals with the individual who will invariably grade similarly to (if not exactly) like the respected member or moderator who posts first. This individual can in certain circumstances be considered an annoying "Brown Noser" so-to-speak. The posts left by these members can be comical and are totally devoid of 'individual opinion' or insight. Obviously, in an effort to gain a favored stature position with the forum moderator/respected member. Additionally, this individual has been known to spark controversial remarks and angry discussion if the OP is open for a wide range of grades and differing opinions. Fortunately in this forum the differing opinions and thoughts are cultivated and encouraged, thus lowering the fear of being ridiculed and receiving that unsavory label Forum Idiot, LOL... What are your thoughts? Take Care Ben
Now, having gotten my "brown nosing" out of the way I find this topic fascinating. Why? - because my wife sits at her computer while I sit at mine and she hears me over here talking about these things. Yes, I interrupt her a lot. We know who the moderator is don't we? Man, am I tired of reading "I agree with Doug". I don't always agree with Doug. There I typed it will I be banned from the community? Now let me clarify. I respect Doug (with a J as I call him). He obviously does a lot of research and can generally back up what he says. Still doesn't mean I have to agree with him. Hopefully Doug has a bit of respect for me because of this. There are people here that I tend to agree with very often. That's going to happen and yes, Ben actually is one of those. There are others that I don't see eye to eye with and we've had some pretty good skirmishes over it. Hey, that's what makes it interesting. The thread that I posted which received the most hits was "Modern $1 coins just plain suck". Why was that? Well, a ton of people don't agree and replied about it. I got hit from all sides and know what? I enjoyed it. I wasn't looking for a bunch of "Clembo is right" statements. Got a good discussion going as I see it with a lot of opinions. Opinions is a big part of the reason we are here aren't we? Bring 'em on but keep the "smooching" down. Seems I've already gone off topic. Got wrapped up in the brown nose thing. I try to grade by ANA standards for the record. NOT what someone else says.
If we allways agreed with everything it would be boring Me I know enough about grading to write it on the back of a very small postage stamp LOL but what I do know is if I like the look of a coin or not It is very rare for Doug to be wrong after all he was on the Arc with Moses LOL (Sorry Doug ) and he might ban you for somethings but disagreeing woudnt be one of them. Just remember not to disagree with ME
Well, For starters I was wrong and hoping Doug would point it out as he'd be right so I could say "I agree with Doug". Doug is the Adminstrator not a Moderater. He goes by GDJMSP.
Can't be me "brown-nosing". I don't even know who the "big guns" are around here. You ask a question, I supply my answer assuming I feel reasonably competent to even render an opinion. And when I do give an opinion I always explain how I arrived at it. That way if I missed something I can be corrected and learn.
Chanukah is long over. Next stop is Passover. ------------------------------------------------------- edited Ruben
Well Ruben, I still hope you and your family had a happy one and happy wishes for a coming Passover. After Christmas (Yule) our families next stop will be Easter with a brief party along the way at Imbolc (aka GroundHog Day) Feb 1-2. Take Care Ben
Gonnna getcha for that Generally speaking, far more people disagree with me than ever do agree with me.
Since my more subtle message was edited, let me hope that in the spirit of your holiday, and mind you I'm not an expert on Christian theology, that you find some time to continue with the great ideas and postings that you've done over the years, and steer away from posts which create innuendo, political intrigue, and resentments like this thread might, which is very likely to be far from the holiday spirit. Enjoy your camping trip. Ruben
Ummmm...next stop is Tu B'Shvot, then comes Purim, then Passover! But whatever, let's all try to have a peaceful 2008 and all get along with each other!
Well - I try to determine a grade myself. Then I like to see what others posted. Sometimes I wish they would post why they think the grade is what they posted - because sometimes I do not see how they got that grade.
<Shakes Head> Ruben, me thinks you've gotten your threads mixed up. Besides you're the first one to reply in this thread using a reference to any religious holiday. So keeping in the spirit you started for some reason... Merry Christmas Ben
