1978 with what looks like doubling along side the 8 ?

    That hit on the rim? Appears to be damage.
    There really are not too many prominent coins that have true doubled dies.
    They are rare.

    You can see on the enlargement where the 7 and the 9 also got a similar swipe. Most likely a coin counter or roll crimping tool. Jim

    OK now I am seeing a little ghost of an 8 on the left side of the digit.
    Could be MD or DDD but not a DD.
