Hi Guys I won a nice Ardashir I in last Steve album auction which I received today. it is a beauty love to hear your opinion on it.
Very nice! Ardashir I has a great portrait (several of them, in fact, at different points in his career). Here he is on an obol:
WoWiE! Congrats!! That's a real beauty (he said wiping the drool from his chin). I received this lil bad boy just last week! ShapurII Sasanian Kingdom AD 309- 379.Drachm AR 23mm., 4,04g. @Parthicus Yes Ardashir was handsome dude he had made many coins with different styles of bust. I have another variations of it too which also has fantastic eye appeal.
Guys I also thought to share another beauty I got from a well known collection this one also came from last steve album auction. It is Shapur III rare Herat mint coin.
Nice job @arashpour ! I do not have an Ardy I, but his Namesake III I reckon this was a Kid and not in office too long... Persia Sassanian Ardashir III 628-629 CE AR Drachm 36mm 3.85g Zoroastrian Fire Alter Gobl II-1 yr 2 Delta RARE
@Alegandron Thanks for comments! Yes he was very young and was killed soon it was almost end of dynasty where many kings and 2 queen came to power within few years. and soon Arabs invaded and founded Umayyad Dynasty
I got this one because he dispatched the Emperor Valerian I and, that this was an AE vs. all the AR's out there... Sassanian Shapur I 240-272 CE AE Tetradrachm 10.78g 27mm Ctesiphon mint phase 1a mural crown korymbos - fire altar type 2 SNS IIa1-1a
Wow, I post a Parthian & Sasanian recently & they got some of the least replies I ever got for a new thread. Still great coin, I still need a Ardashir I.
Here is my Varhran V he was one of most famous Sasanian kings in literature and so many legend have been attributed to him he was called Bahram Gur
Forgot to mention above is Gorgan mint (GO) which is rather rare here is a similar one with some variations from
Don't know much about that type coin. I have to admit its very different. Like his dreads. Also the mad max thunderdome head gear
Could you comment on the coins we call billon tetradrachms that seem to weigh about 4x the drachms shown above but also appear to contain silver about 1/4 as pure?
