1958 Lincoln Memorial Cent Weighs 3.38

    I found this lincoln that weighs 3.38

    Does anyone have an idea as to what it is? Would it just be a thick planchet error?

    That's either a gigantic penny or a really small scale.

    Some of those older (pre 1960) cents seem to be heavier than a lot of other similar years but I've never actually weighed them to verify. I'd guess simply a planchet that's a bit over weight. Not sure what the tolerances are off hand.

    ....close enough for Govt. work

    It's a bit over tolerance, but insignificant
    as far as value as an error.
