@mvlov43 My order from NGC is nearly done and I got a message to conserve one of the coins probably due to pvc.....so I told them to go ahead, I read that it takes another 20 days..........argh, hopefully it doesn't take that long.
Cool video! Have to love those little registered brown tape boxes ! One detail about NCS (not quite complete on the video) is that the fees, whether they did any conservation or not, only are charged on one of the combined tiers (gold and modern). In other words the $28 (modern) and $50 (gold) is for conservation PLUS grading. There is no reduction in fee if no service is performed. Those fees are only a touch higher than the grading only fees so I suppose that compensates for the additional administrative work (or for the rare modern or gold that has a complex problem). I'm guessing they provide the lower cost modern/gold services as the conservation issues are probably less labor intensive to correct. On the other hand, for the Standard tier (4% fair market value), the fee IS waived if the coin is not conserved, though it is then sent over to NGC and the normal grading fees apply. Never thought to do an unboxing video. How do you have your camera/phone set up? Best I can do will be some before/after shots if they are worthy.
Thanks so much for the information! The "tier" for these coins was "Modern," so yeah, they were $28 a piece, plus 4% FMV. My camera set up is: 1) Cheap video camera tripod. 2) Sony "Cyber-shot" digital camera (almost 10 years old). 3) 2 Hand-held circular photography light reflectors (silver side) that I kept standing on that table up with paint cans! I put down the NGC box on that table and reach my arms around both sides of the camera/tripod set-up and open the box and take out the coins. I keep the reflectors standing up on both sides, out of shot. I later take hand-held stills using the reflectors to get extra light in there for clarity. I then upload video and stills into iMovie, and use its captions, transitions, speed adjuster, and canned Muzak to create the film.
