How many more years will we have of the silver eagle until it gets replaced?

The silver eagle has been around for 32 years and one has to wonder how long will it have until it gets replaced?

    as in the design updated?
    or the series replaced ?

and either way, what about the Gold Eagle or Platinum Eagle (which has various designs) too ?

It seems to be a popular series that has enduring success.

No need to fix what isn't broken.

Do you think the silver eagle can hold out for its 50th anniversary?

and replace it with another 1 ounce coin ?
a new naming convention for US Bullion coins?

either way, I don't see anything changing anytime soon other than designs.
You have the American Silver/ Gold /Platinum /Paladium (Bald) Eagles.

What else are they going to call it - after a President, Ship (Constitution - wouldn't mind see a detailed ship on a large coin), Liberty .. etc ?

maybe make a 5 oz version? oh wait, they did that.

The piece is entirely too popular. Changing the design would be a money losing proposition for the mint.

The ASE and AGE designs should be left alone. Both are extremely popular and would be hard to improve upon. Screwing them up with something like a different politically mandated design every year would only lead to fewer people buying them.(First Spouse, anyone?)

Based on that, I expect the series to be overhauled any day now.

Think after 25 years the mint has the opption to change coin designs

It might get tweaked with some extra security features eventually but I don’t see the design going away unless sales really start slumping and it’s clear people are bored with it

The ASE current design has long worn out it's welcome.
Replace it with something new. Ideas for new designs
can come from recent editions of the Judd/Pollock books.
It would be nice to see the "School Girl" design or the "Amazonian"
design on the ASE. Other countries change their bullion coin
designs yearly. I would think that every 2 years would be
a good thing. ASE's are suffering thru slow sales the past
couple of years. Maybe a change of designs.

Go take a look at some of the garbage the Mint has put out over the past few years, then tell me you want them to change the ASE design.

I honestly would like to see the design changed, but I don’t want the current committees and process to have any say in what it’s changed too. Anything they get to decide should just be left alone so they don’t make it worse

The only ASE I own is the Millennium version so it has a different design on the reverse. I sort of like how it has stayed the same, that being said I wouldn't be opposed to a design change, I say leave the obverse alone though. IMO

By any chance does the back of your coin look like this? 152830305154796003.jpeg

That's ISN'T an ASE. It's just a privately made silver round, one of over ten thousand different designs out there.

That coin was minted by a private mint not the US mint.

Interesting, I did not know that. It was a gift from Littleton Coin when I worked there in 1999-2000, they gave each employee 1. I've never looked it up or researched anything about it. Thanks for the info!
