So I got this Bi-Centennial quarter in change the other day. Looks really nice !! Yes a MS75 hahahaha Anyways, my question is related to the metal flow around the Reverse, flame and stars on the top left. It seems to flow from lower left to upper right. I though metal flow was from the center outwards. Or is it more related to the Relief and Legends? All the easily visible metal flow seems to be from the top to bottom with distinct lines on the Reverse. It looks like the lines are die polish lines, but it's hard to be sure, i'm looking at the photos on mobile.
ok, I never thought of the die polish lines much, never really understood them. But those are just polishing lines that do not affect the relief, as the relief is indented into the dies. So the polishing doesn't affect them. Things are starting to make more sense .. just takes a few years.
Nice for circulation. Reverse is very nice. Could be the photo the obv is a tad mushy. Those lines are super straight on the rev. I don't see the need or reason for cleaning this bus. strike coin, so I am in the die polish line camp until otherwise humiliated.
Better pic. Is it MS? IDK. It has circulated a little. Someone prob spent it out of their collection. And you saved it before it went through the ringer.
Oh I don’t care I was really curious of the marks. Now I know what they are and how they happen after some reading. I keep all my change. This just stuck out as fairly clean. It now goes in a quarter jar stored away My kids will have fun with the CU Coin counter machine when I’m gone. Or they’ll be on here posting if all the S pennies are Doublue-Dyed @paddyman98
definitely not in MS condition as I have seen several. But it still an awesome find in very fine condition. Are you going to sell it? There are not too many of them in circulation. I have one in Almost Un-circulated.
I meant MS76, not 75, for 1776-1976 just as a joke. No, not selling. It did go in a flip though, and into my DIS (Decay In Storage) container to be stored away. I have many of these containers that I put the Washington eagle quarters into and other change. Matter of fact, this one container is nearly full, and I'm prepping another container for another load of Washington Quarters. I just have to make more toast fairly quickly as I'm running out of room fast.
The quarter would get an MS Details grade. The curl next to the ear looks uncirculated and it has the lustre, but the scratch on the obverse at the far right 3 o'clock looks like a wheel mark. Here's one I got from change after a coin shop purchase for another coin. Good condition, maybe they gave it as a fun little extra tip.
yeah that obverse mark could be from a coin rolling machine considering it's consistency and length. Oh well, it was put away in the jar for some other future adventure ... when I was a kid when they came out I really liked the design and stored them away since.
