New purchase of 1843 dollar

This coin was last sold in January of this year for $1237 on Great Collections. It was then in a PCGS AU-55 slab. Had a green bean CAC sticker too. Buyer cracked it out and resubmitted it to PCGS hoping for a higher grade I guess. Lost the CAC sticker and came back at the same grade. Bought it last night for $935 with buyers premium on Great Collections. This is my first coin of this type but I thought the price was reasonable compared to the price paid in January. Heh. I was expecting this to be another "...from eBay, I got a good price, does it look authentic?" thread. This is a very nice change.

 

I really like it. Looks solid in the TrueViews and I'm a fan of the color.

Plus, you got a green bean'd SLD without even paying close to full retail. Nice work and nice coin!

 

This. I fully expect it to look much more like the TruView than the GC photo which generally aren't that good in my opinion on older coins

 

I would have never cracked it out.

 

They didn’t necessarily. Could have been a regrade to get the secure holder and not sent back to CAC. Some people think CAC doesn’t matter or desipise it so it’s hard to say what happened with it

Nice one. I’d have never cracked it either. Accurate at 55. I’d get the cac bean back too by sending it to them and explaining

 

Nice coin. Your timing was right in buying it. The surfaces are great. It should CAC again. I'm thinking they will know the coin and put a new sticker on it for a small fee.

 

Great Collections is taking care of putting the CAC sticker back on the new slab at no charge to me.

 

That’s certainly nice of them from your standpoint. If I was the consignor though I would be pretty upset they waited until after the sale, that’s assuming it wasn’t one of those weird ones who hates cac

 

I would be upset too if I was selling.
