I have this UK Metal Detector 'find' and I was hoping that someone more knowledgeable than I might have a clue as to what I have. I have photographed the coin with different light sources hoping to bring out more detail. I would be grateful for any ideas, please? (Apparently) AE17.3mm., 0.45gm. (Very thin) (Side 'A') (Side 'B')
I think it’s a Richmond issue, but what type I can’t tell. I suppose you could use the position of the crown relative to the CAROL.
I have just returned from hospital after cataract surgery. I am 'blind' (bandages) so my wife is typing this. I will be back in a couple of days. Thank-you to all who have posted.
Thank-you @Severus Alexander for your kind wishes. Bandages off now and sight restored. (Everyone should get new lenses in their eyes - The world is so beautiful - one forgets.) Thanks to @Milesofwho , and to @Oldhoopster , and to @Severus Alexander for the help in identifying this Charles I coin for me. Your input is much appreciated. I am happy to describe the coin as :- Charles I, 1625-1649 AD 'Royal' Farthing, AE 17.3 mm., 0.45 gm., Richmond Mint Ref: Sp.'98 3185
Here is more about it. I believe the author is a member of CoinTalk. Also, I believe you could probably figure out the privy mark on your example. https://oldcurrencyexchange.com/201...uide-the-richmond-patent-farthings-1625-34-2/
