I got this from a vending machine and the 6 in 1863 has a bump of metal in it and I've never seen anything like this before. It is not flat but an actual bump and is P mint. If this is an error I am wondering what it is called and if it has any additional value? If needed I can brighten the scans. Thanks, nos
Ok, I will take that part of the coin off with a grinder so someone else who finds the coin doesnt think they've found an error like I did.
lol ... Now that's funny. Instead of "fixing" an error you are creating post mint damage. The next guy that finds it will post another ..."hey, look what I got out of the vending machine" thread and it starts all over again. Aint this hobby cooooool?
This error is so common even though I've never found one like this before having searched gazillions of coins that no one else will again wonder if it is an error worth researching or not. I practiced on coins #1 and #3 first before I put the error quarter out of its misery and did a pretty good job if I don't say so myself. Note: My intent was not to render these coins unfit for circulation but rather to have them circulate for a long time to come.
To take off the worthless error part but perhaps to also get these 3 coins to actually circulate and not be hoarded for who knows how long which is what the government wants you to do as they make $$$ by you doing so.

About 3 years ago I was at a coin club meeting. At this meeting there was an old man named Jack. Jack was (and maybe still is) an avid collector of coins such as gold, mint collector products, etc. Well at this particular meeting Jack had a tray full of old silver half dollars. These halves ranged from nice condition Walkers dating as far back as 1917 to mint BU '64 Kennedy's. Jack informed me that whatever didn't sell in the tray that night was going to be sold to a local smelter for silver bullion. His wife seeing as how I was dismayed and turning pale in disbelief, tried to justify this activity by telling me that Jack had made thousands by doing this as he made more by selling to a metals refiner than to collectors.
