IMG_0186.JPG IMG_0184.JPG I have a suspicion that this coin is counterfeit and I would like some opinions from other people regarding this coin.

Welcome. Try setting your phone on a solid surface and taking a pic. So it isn't blurry. You'll need to remove it from the holder, too.

The focal point is the table at 12 o clock, not the coin. Take it out of the holder and give it another go. Thanks.

Try taking a photo of the coin out of the holder as others have mentioned.:)

Sorry but those photos are blurry beyond recognition.

I think I can vaguely see a head, that is about it. As stated, take some pictures out of the holder. Is there something in particular that gives you doubts about it?

Until better images are posted, I suggest changing "possible" in the title to "impossible to determine"

image.jpg image.jpg . I have reason to believe this is counterfeit because I purchased it from a person arrested for counterfeiting but I think he doesn't do it anymore but wanted to check to make sure because you see where the hole is is all scratched up like someone did it artificially. Fresh marks where I suspect someone may have been sanding it down are apparent to the eye.

I don't know colonials but just reading your statement ...

"I have reason to believe this is counterfeit because"
    (1) I purchased it from a person arrested for counterfeiting

    (2) because you see where the hole is is all scratched up like someone did it artificially.

    (3) Fresh marks where I suspect someone may have been sanding it down are apparent to the eye.
    = = = =

    I count 3 strikes against it ??

Looks like a Washington Born Virginia Token. I don't have a lot of experience in Washingtonia, but I think this is a desirable token if original (although not so much in that condition). However, Restrikes exist and I saw a notation saying a Uniface restrike was struck in 1959. I can't see anything on the reverse of your coin so it may be that restrike that someone has added the "distressed" look in order to pass it off as authentic.

Just my best guess, but based on your 3 points listed, I wouldn't be surprised if it was an altered restrike. Maybe someone with more experience in this field will add a comment
