It has had several meteor strikes, but I think it is pretty cool. Here is a past Naville: Campania, Capua Semuncia circa 216-211, Æ 18.4mm., 4.58g. Bust of Juno r., holding sceptre on shoulder. Rev. KAPV Two xoana draped. SNG ANS 215. Historia Numorum Italy 495. Rare. Green patina. Obv. Slighlty double struck; Very Fine/Good Very Fine. From the E.E. Clain-Stefanelli collection.
I got skunked this time but picked up this Demetrios II tet (a wacky character) from the last one. I've been wanting one with a nice bearded portrait but they tend to get pricey:
I was successful on one I’ve wanted for a while. T. Carisius. Denarius 46, AR 18mm., 3.54g. MONETA Head of Iuno Moneta r. Rev. T·CARISIVS Coining implements. All within laurel wreath. Babelon Carisia 1. Sydenham 982. Sear Imperators 70. RBW 1614. Crawford 464/2. Good Very Fine.
I wondered if you'd be going for that baby. Was on my watch list but they blew past me very early. Sorry you missed it!
I won this: Severus Alexander, 222-235 Sestertius circa 225, Æ 32mm., 21.56g. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust r. Rev. Jupiter seated l., holding Victory and sceptre. C 98 var. (not cuirassed). RIC 560 var. (not cuirassed). Light brown tone, Good Very Fine/Very Fine.
Here is another of my past Naville wins: Campania, Capua Bronze circa 216-211, Æ 14.5mm., 2.35g. Diademed and veiled bust of Hera r.; lotus-tipped sceptre over shoulder. Rev. KAPV in oscan character Grain ear; in r. field, tripod-like object. SNG France 517. SNG ANS 219. Historia Numorum Italy 500. Good Very Fine/Very Fine. From the E.E. Clain-Stefanelli collection.
I got 10 lots in the latest Naville auction - a few I wanted went a bit too high, so I ended up with quantity. To be posted tomorrow, so should have them by Tuesday (Monday's a holiday here). This is maybe the nicest of the 11 (one was a lot of two!) - Cr. 410/4: Hopefully the scratches aren't too obvious in-hand. ATB, Aidan.
I had a handful of possible targets on my list but my power was out during that part of the Naville auction. Such is life.
