Could someone with more knowledge than me on Thailand coins help me with this? I have had this coin for years and have not been able to identify it. At one time I thought it was a Baht coin but it may be a Thai token or commemorative of some type. I am new here and if this is the wrong place to be asking please feel free to move or delete. Any help would be greatly appreciated. baht 1.jpg baht 2.jpg

hi fauto, I collect thai coins. On the front with the elephant there are how many stars? 4 right? A baht has 8 stars so this is a 1/2 baht. It has the reverse of a 1860 rama iv coin however these coins are silver, yours looks copper. One possibility is this could be a copper pattern.......you would need to send that in to NGC or PCGS or just a fantasy piece/fake.

Note: I have seen some medals that resemble that actual coins these last few months, they look like yours but they were baht/2 baht in size.

Thanks for the reply. It has had me baffled for close to 8 years. Yes it has 4 stars and the center of the coin obverse is raised.

It's a bit crude and also appears to have remnants of silvering. Both of these pretty much rule out it being an official pattern. I believe it is just a modern novelty replica.
