Now that the Mint isn't selling the Presidential dollars anymore what happened to all the dollars that was in the vault? Are they just sitting? Thanks!

More then likely, just the Susan B. Anthony and Sac Dollars that sat in vaults for years, hell just think of how long Morgan Silver Dollars sat in vaults until the GSA sales.

I hope the mint sold them all.
Sadly most people don't use the dollar coins and they end up at the bank.
If you want to make the day of a teller, ask for their dollar coins.:)

I'm sure that some folks still add them to their collection. I have 445 of them. Otherwise, they'll sit in a fault for the next 100 years gathering dust.

Most of them are in the vaults, there is a slow draw down of maybe 6 million coins a month. At that rate they have about a 27 year supply.

In the early 80’s the Government sent all those SBA’s overseas for us soldiers to use. A genuine greenback dollar bill was a rare sight.

Some number of the dollar coins probably end up in Ecuador. They use the U.S. Dollar there, and Ecuadorians that I've spoken to say they actually use these things, as well as $2 bills and Kennedy halves.

Yes some were shipped to Ecuador and they are popular there. They also started counterfeiting them and some of the counterfeits have worked their way back home.

If the government stopped using paper currency, Dollar coins would catch on.

My friend said I picked you up a couple of dollar coins when I went to Ecuador. I was excited to see what he had. It was the thought that counted in this case. They are very popular there. Showed a lot of usage!

I believe it is almost exclusively the Sacs that went to Ecuador. One of the reasons they are popular is because they take Sacagawea to be an Ecuadorian native. To them it is as if the US struck a coin just for them.
