I would grade it XF to AU, but more toward XF

I would grade this coin out of my reach. These coins are made out of unobtainium.

I think the grade is about right. It's usually my impression that this seller overgrades by about 0.5 to 1 full grade on average, but sold as a regular XF I think it's about right. These high relief babies are a beeyotch to grade...

I'm not that familiar with high relief $20's, but is it normal for the high relief pieces to have such pronounced flat spots on the highest design elements? Except for those flat spots, there really doesn't seem to be that much wear on the rest of the coin.

    Flat Spots

There is a difference between flat spots caused from an unfilled die and wear. The coin pictured shows wear to me. Remember that were are trying to grade via photograph which is rough to say the least.

If this coin is XF is at the exreme low end of that grade, the rim ding which is clealy visable on the reverse is a major knock down,,as well as the wear visable on the left wing edge and breast feathers, the obverse also shows wear on the main part of the design detail breast and knee as well as a couple of rim dings visable at the top of the coin and left side. ,,I think XF is a stretch and the coin should be graded as a high VF.

Overgraded by one notch -- that's not too bad for "ernie".
