wow 5 grand??? Why so much??? Is it because of the serial number??? My uncle has a whole stack of 1950 $50 bills, mostly 1950A and 1950D, Im sure no special serial numbers like that. But I think he has one 1950D $50 bill with a real low serial number, somethin like 00000240 or something around there. Its real low and I know its 200 and something. Anyhow, my uncle has a few thousand dollars face value of all sorts of olb bills hes saved over the years. He wants me to go through them and see whats worth what and he wants me to sell a few and use the money to buy him a few 5,000 count bags of wheaties. Maybe once I have them to sort for him, there might be a few of you currency nuts that can help me out. I know next to nothing when it comes to currency

I tried to buy some lower denomination specimens. A silver Certificate $1 and 2 legal tenders...a $2 and a $5. All were high priced. They are very desirable to have, but I had to pass on them. I would rather collect the Fractional Specimens. They are more affordable.

You have to wonder how easy it is for someone to fake the specimen stamps.

I wondered the same thing years ago, but you cannot fake the serial number its on, unless the entire note is a fake.

If its been through a TPG (Third party grader) they guarantee it.

It would be a great piece to add to your collection but just remember that collection is not so shabby as it is.

I agree, you have a very nice collection. You should be proud of it.
A great group of FRN $10's and $20's type set, and some great fractionals (all good centering).

    Darryl and Old Bucks...

Thanks for your comment on my collection!
While it is not 100% complete yet cuz I have not posted the $5, $2, or $1 from NY yet...plus many other notes that are hanging around...

I hope to get this done over the Xmass Holiday!

I really would like to have this note as a Pinnacle Note of the collection...but for 5K I can do qyuite a bit of damage on the NY collection!

    Happy Holiday Guy's..

I just realized this, all except the $50 on my Know Your Money Poster from the BEP have the same serial number

XX23456789A (Where the XX correspond to the series and a District).

I wonder if that is a standard number for them to use for Specimens??

Wow, man, that is one heck of a nice note. Sorry you can't afford it man. :( But I wouldn't be too upset like said earlier, you have one heck of a nice collection anyone would be proud to have. :) There are plenty of other notes in the sea. :D But, you never know, maybe both of your paths will cross again someday. :D

I just found this on the BEP site...thought you all might be interested??

SO I am wondering if this means that the $50 note I would like to have is a smaller version that the original??
    Anyone know for sure??

not at all RickeyB. that just means that any US note put into print for newspaper, magazines and such, have to be done in such a way as noted on that site. I do beleive our websites might fall into that category as well, but dont think so.
