Nice one! Ptolemy III Is that a Chi Rho between the eagle's legs? I can't quite tell If Chi Rho: Svoronos 964 If that's just a blob rather than a monogram: Svoronos 1002 A helpful site for assigning these numerous and very similar Ptolemaic bronzes coins: http://ptolemybronze.com/ptolemy_series.html Welcome to CoinTalk . I see that you have another ID help post. Do you or are you beginning to collect ancient coins or are you just needing help with a limited number of coins?
thanks for that link ive gotten into and am always learning more about cleaning/restoring ancient coins, i got the coin in this post for a good deal and couldnt let it go but yea i have those and a few others ive come across while cleaning i wasnt sure of at all
i agree, ive left this as i bought it, as for the cleaning its more of a hobby to buy uncleaned/crusty lots and see what i can find or the condition i can manage to restore them to depending on the type of dirt, corrosion, or how weak/strong the patina is i usually test it first and depending on the patina ill use tools from soft toothbrushes or nylon bristle brushes or metal picks/brass bristle brushes or these certain dremel tool attachments ive found that have worked
Mine is half yours as a Hemidrachm: Egypt Ptolemy III 245-222 BC AE 34mm 31g HemiDrachm Zeus-Ammon Eagle Tbolt Cornucopia XP Chi-Rho SV 965
