Not to me but it could use a better holder.

    Hi, @redcent230 .
Nice coin, but I don't think it would be worth it to have it graded.

    No photo of the reverse.
But just from the obverse I'd say MS-62.
Too much "noise" on the cheek, neck and in the fields.

I am genuinely curious. We see a lot of “should I have this graded” questions here. When I saw these photos I was actually gravitating toward a potential yes to the question..... it is a common date, however it is a solid strike with some appealing toning. Yes there are bag marks. But all in all I find this to be a pretty nice piece........ Is the reasoning for not slabbing because it wouldn’t realize a financial premium due to being a common date?

Yes, for most on the board. If it is a pure collector , they can use the money instead to buy more/better coins. If for a flipper, certainly, if for a collection builder, yes because they can pursue a better one. Going just from the photos, it appears to be in the 63 +/- range and unless part of a large group with cost $50 or more to PCGS. I would not grade it.

Thanks all for the advice. I thought since it is an 1878 P 7 tail maybe you know what I mean. Yes I do see some major hit on the obverse, but the reverse is pretty nice.

If those contact marks werent on the face and neck, it would grade well. As is, it's not worth grading unless you have money to waste or just like the look or security off a slab.
