Origin of name : from the Anglo-Saxon word "iron" or "iren" (the origin of the symbol Fe comes from the Latin word "ferrum" meaning "iron"). Possibly the word iron is derived from earlier words meaning "holy metal" because it was used to make the swords used in the Crusades..
The three most important words in paper money collecting? Condition, condition, condition. A really nice low serial number, though.
In fact, Fe-55, an important isotope! You might get a premium for this despite its condition -- if you can find just the right nerd as a customer. (I'm almost the right nerd, but I don't collect paper money...)
OK, so it's not in the best condition, but it's still an "eye catcher" & worthy of the "Keeper" label! Nice find!
Condition, condition, condition. In general a good rule. But condition goes out the window when it's the only known note on a bank. For example, a Peoples NB of Hendersonville, NC [charter #9571], only known note, in washed out VG, went for $42,000. You could get a better condition note from the Citizens NB of Hendersonville [charter #10734] for about $500. [About 20 known.]
