Here is a Peroz Drachm I acquired. Not sure about the reference for this. If anyone knows, help would be appreciated. Peroz (459 - 484 A.D.) AR Drachm O: Crowned bust right, crescent on forehead. R: Fire altar with attendants and ribbon, star and crescent flanking flames; “Peroz” in Pahlavi to left, mint to right. 26mm 4g
I think that is a Gobl Type II crown with a type 3 reverse. The Type II crown is used in years 3 - 8 of his reign. The character on the left is not the king's name but the letter "M" - I can't recall what the significance of that was. I think the mint is "PR" which has been identified as Furat-Maisan which I believe was a city near Basra right at the end of the Persian Gulf.
Nice one Mat! I just got my first Sasanian coin a couple days ago. Khusro II, I think. Not as nice as yours.
Cool Sassanian Mat! Those altar attendants really put on their skinny jeans for guard duty that day didn't they?
Yes Gobl is the reference for these. That is quite the fancy helmet on Peroz. The helmets identify the ruler but I am not good yet at reading the dates or mints. I struggle to differentiate between the letters.
