I hear you man, I'm always looking for that one and the E-clasher.
87P is another E clasher (moon $) I always have to check for.
Along with the 81S with the big crack through the chicken.
I couldn't begin to estimate how many of those I've searched so far with no dice.
To me finding that coin out in the wild the way you did is a landmark event and you should be damn proud of yourself!!

Yeah, there are a bunch of VAM's that I am always on the look out for. The '87 has a couple, the E clasher is one as well as a Donkey Tail. I came across an early die state '83-O 36a about a month ago, I got SO excited thinking it was a 22a until I checked the diagnostics on the obverse die. That was a bit of a let down. But the Wounded Eagle '81-S is one I hope to find some day. Thankfully none of the dealers around here care at all about VAM's. :) That's how I found the raw '86 VAM-20 recently.

That's the beauty of vams in my eyes!
Some dealers don't bother and don't even care to cruise a Morgan real good with a loupe. 85+% probably. Briggs had a donkey tail in 65 he wanted $18,000 for a while back. I've always considered myself a '21 & 87 P aficionado similar to Dave and the '83 o.
( not quite as deep into it as him though)

Good things come to those who wait. This one is much better than the one you came across last year. I would think this one is worth at least double what you paid. Nice pick indeed! I wouldn't even flinch cracking it out of a PCI slab. Getting it in a NGC slab even if it graded PL is better in my opinion.
Oh, and I picked a EDS 36a a couple years ago hoping for a 22a. Terrible pictures with no sign of the w in the ear. A friend later gave me a tip that the 22a obverse die is over polished to where the hair under the designers initial is missing among other areas.

I cracked her out of that PCI holder. Here's a couple videos I shot of the obverse and reverse. The obverse I can read out to the 12 inch mark on a tape measure and the reverse out to 11 inches. The reverse is a bit tougher due to the distortions in the fields because of the particular VAM it is.

LOL. I got a lot of grief the last time I posted something without wearing gloves and I can't stand those cotton gloves. These nitrile gloves are thin enough to give me positive control of the coin. :)

I prefer the white sheepskin over the latex gloves. Its like wearing nothing at all

Cotton is a natural fiber......nitrite is a chemical concoction :watching:.....we may have to send in a hazmat team in to confiscate the effected coins.

Not a good idea. As bad as the chemical concoction maybe, it's certainly better than dying of high velocity lead poisoning. Which is a much higher likely hood than any other hazardous materials around here. :dead:

Hey @jtlee321 - Did you ever submit this one?

Not yet, I've been sitting on a pile of coins to send in for submission. My problem is, I like to spend my money on coins rather than plastic. I know it's something I need to do and my pile keeps getting larger. I now have about 5 DMPL's that need to go in along with a whole bunch of other stuff.

I’m guessing the marks look a lot worse than they really are but I’m having a hard time giving it a 65, so I’ll say 64+PL.

This is a great thread reinforcing the need to get educated about the coin you want to collect!
